Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I have a Blood Test?
Our various blood tests are able to identify deficiencies within the body that may contribute to you being susceptible to certain medical conditions.
Vitamin and mineral deficiencies may also cause you to experience symptoms such as fatigue, regular colds & low moods, and so blood tests are a great diagnostic tool that enables you to know exactly what your body needs.
How is the sample collected?
The blood samples are collected in clinic or in the comfort of your own home by registered healthcare professionals and taken intravenously through your vein. It is a quick and painless procedure. It is the same process as having a blood test at your local GP surgery.
What is the difference between getting a Blood Test and a DNA Test?
The DNA test offered at GAD is a sample taken from the inside of the mouth using a swab against the cheek. The swab sample is then sent in a pre-paid envelope to the lab to be processed.
The DNA test is based on the genes of a person and therefore would only be required once in a lifetime as genetic information will not change. The DNA test results are able to identify how the body responds to and metabolises specific nutrients, which is more effective than a blood test in regards to micronutrient requirements.
However, a blood test is able to tell a person the current levels of a particular component within the blood such as vitamins, hormones, proteins or electrolytes.
By balancing a healthy lifestyle and focusing on any deficiencies found from the blood test, your results can improve over a period of time. You can have a retest to check your levels.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for my Blood Test?
Before arriving for any blood test, we recommend drinking plenty of water. Staying hydrated helps with vein quality and ease of vein access when the blood sample is taken, and dehydration can cause results to be inaccurate.
For our Complete Blood Analysis, General Healthcheck, Sports Performance Check, and Essential Iron Check, fasting for at least 12 hours is recommended (nothing to eat or drink except water).
You should not take any iron tablets for 24 hours before your blood test, as they can make your blood iron levels falsely high.
Who can have a Blood Test?
We will only offer blood tests to those over 18 years of age. We will not perform blood tests on children.
How long does the test take?
The procedure of the blood test will take no longer than 15 minutes with the inclusion of completing the required documents beforehand. Additional time can be added for any questions you may have.
Do I have to fill out a health screening beforehand?
Yes, you will have to complete our Get A Drip Medical Questionnaire. This is an important document which will include disclosure of any medical conditions an individual may have, as well as medications, specific health concerns, and also if you feel well enough to have the blood test taken that day.
Prior to your blood test, we can also perform blood pressure, heart rate and blood oxygen level readings at your request.
When will I receive my results?
Results from the Complete Blood Analysis, Complete Vitamins Check and G6PD Deficiency Check will take 7-10 working days to arrive in your inbox.
All other blood test results will take 3-7 working days.
Who reviews my results?
Results will be reviewed by a GMC registered Doctor, who will provide any relevant recommendations or referrals written in your report. This will be sent together with a full PDF report of your results to your provided email address.
If you would like a consultation to further discuss your results with our in-house nutritionist, please click here.
What happens if there's a problem with my sample?
If there is a problem with your sample, we may need to contact you to return for a repeat blood draw.
Is there any downtime?
No downtime is required after a blood test. We advise that the dressing applied to the site of the blood draw is kept clean, dry and in place for 30 minutes. We also advise that you avoid working out directly afterwards, as this can cause visible bruising to appear around the cannulation site.
Is the test painful?
No, the test shouldn’t be painful. Of course, we are puncturing the skin with a needle, so it may be slightly uncomfortable. We do have the option of using a cold numbing spray, to make your experience as comfortable as possible. If you are feeling nervous or anxious about your blood test, don’t be afraid to let your blood draw professional know – we are here to help you feel at ease.
Are there any hidden costs?
No, the total costs are inclusive of the whole package. However, for mobile call outs a call-out charge may apply
