Why is a DNA test better than a blood test?
A blood test is a picture of what nutrients are in your bloodstream at that particular time. You would need to have a blood test every time you want to check your nutrient levels. The DNA test only needs to be done once, as your DNA code doesn’t change. Instead of telling you what levels are in your blood, it tells you how your body metabolises certain nutrients, and if your body needs more of them, to equip you with the knowledge to make better informed lifestyle decisions.
Why is a cheek swab the best way to do a DNA test?
All DNA tests use saliva or cheek cells as the sample type. The benefits being that they are easy and painless to collect, and are easily transportable/ stable.
Finger prick blood tests are used for point in time biomarker/ functional testing (not DNA), can be painful, need to be returned quickly (same/ next day) and don’t offer any benefit from a quality/accuracy perspective (for DNA) compared to saliva.
Using a hair sample is more difficult to extract sufficient/quality DNA so it would be more expensive and there would be a high failure rate.
Why is DNA testing more expensive than a blood test?
DNA tests (which only need to be done once, as your DNA code doesn’t change) are more expensive to process and analyse than blood/functional tests (which represent status at a single point in time).
